Code Rule Question of the Week From Cody |
Do you have to bond each metal strip in a 2 or 3 gang box with a wire to each?
For example, if you have 3 loomex cables coming into a 2 gang, must you put
a bare wire on a screw on each of the metal strips in the box? Yes and no. The code only requires this to be done on ganged metal boxes. If they are the plastic boxes with a metal tie already manufactured into the box, you do not have to bond each strip. Also, in any non ganged boxes (one piece construction-plastic or metal), if there are 2 or more bonding screws, you can put 1 wire under each screw and do not need to pigtail them if one is left long enough to reach the device you are installing such as a duplex receptacle. . |
